What we say:

At A Glance:

Since day one, the SG has earned its place as a Rock classic.

The SG is generally sought out by players who enjoy the thick signature Gibson sound but find the likes of a Les Paul too heavy or lacking upper fret access. The thinner mahogany body and double cutaway design of this model encourages long, creative sessions of playing.

As with the rest of this range, Gibson have gone for a more traditional look, sound, and spec for the SG. The SG's famous tone is all here; less overtly thick than a Les Paul, grouped with plenty of sustain. The perfect instrument for Classic Rock crunch, Heavy Metal riffs, and ripping solos, the SG can also deliver in Indie, Funk, Blues, and Pop.

Features We Love:

490R/T Pickups

Sounding pretty hot, the 490R and 490T pickups are often found on Les Paul Customs. They sound large, powerful and full of energy!

Rounded Neck Profile

The 'Rounded' neck profile from Gibson is somewhat larger than their others, such as the 'Slim Taper'. This means that this neck will feel great in your hands while playing, especially over extended periods of rocking! Offering great access all across the fretboard, if you prefer a good chunk of timber to hold on to, this could be the one for you!

Pros:

  • 490R/T pickups offer hot, powerful tones
  • Rounded neck profile feels great!

Light weight, easy to play, no surprise some of the top rock guitarists choose this guitar. Absolute dream axe. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing guitar, have wanted one for years. I was made redundant recently so decided to treat myself. The sound is amazing, action is great. I just need to get better! :)

Totally in love with this guitar, great timbre very easily playable fretboard and comfortable grip. Good pickup responsivity and a solid sustain. Overall a great entry into modern Gibsons.

Its an SG legendary guitar

Rory M. - 26/7/2022

This guitar is something I’ve wanted for years, ever since I grew up looking at popular classic rock musicians using one. This SG oozes quality from the start. The pickups are absolutely gorgeous, responsive, smooth and buttery. The volume pot is so useful for dialling in different tones and works without sucking any treble. The neck feels perfect and the resonance of the wood is divine. The whole thing just sings! It sounded exactly as I’d hoped when I plugged it in. Absolutely love my SG.

I feel it's worth noting I had to return 2 of these as they kept arriving with loose switches or finish damage (scrapes and dings). Even the 3rd one I kept had a little of this. The low E tuner wasn't screwed in all the way and had to be tightened, some mild dents near the input jack, no protective plastic covering the pick guard which is strange for a "brand new" guitar, The headstock also had a slight scuff where a tuner had presumably been though that one wiped off mostly. Overall it's hard to say if theses issues originated at Gibson or come from the shops but in any case I felt this was worth mentioning. A couple Les Pauls I've had in the past never arrived with issues (didn't buy those here though).
