What we say:

At A Glance:

The PRS John Mayer Silver Sky Golden Mesa is a refined reimagining of a classic guitar. A sensation when it was first released the Silver Sky continues to turn heads with its unique look today. With obvious inspiration John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith set about creating a guitar that recreated a truly vintage feel in the modern day. The PRS Silver Sky draws most of its inspiration from vintage 1960's guitars and features fretwire that is slightly smaller than your standard PRS and a retro 7.25" Fretboard radius. Still though this guitar is identifiably PRS with the unmistakable headstock shape, the bird inlays, and the tremolo which although more of a "vintage" design has all the form and functionality that has made PRS tremolo's so famous.

Features We Love:

635JM Pickups

Some of John Mayer's favourite feeling guitars come from 1963 and 1964 so when designing pickups it was important to capture the sounds of both guitars in 1 set. To say PRS have achieved this would be an understatement. The pickups recreated the warmth and rich snap of classic early 60's single coils. With a glassy sound that isn't in any way shrill, and a bass tone that is present but in no way overbearing.

Vintage Neck

Much like the pickups, the neck is inspired by the same guitars from 1963 and 1964. When designing the neck for the Silver Sky these guitars were the inspiration and the neck carve has been meticulously crafted to sit perfectly in between these two models. To recreate that vintage feeling on the front there is a 7.25" radius and smaller sized fretwire. The result is a truly vintage feeling neck, made with the consistency and quality of a modern day premium guitar.

PRS Design & Quality

Paul Reed Smith's reputation and passion for quality precedes him. You'll find no shortage of attention to detail here. Every inch of this guitar has been designed from the ground up. From the pickups to the neck, the steel tremolo that forms a perfect amalgamation between vintage design and modern PRS design. The headstock is carved to allow more room to play closer to the nut and to achieve the perfect string tension. The Silver Sky is built with unmatched consistency and quality.

Highlights:

  • Vintage inspired design
  • PRS USA quality
  • Refined but vintage tones

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4/5 (1 reviews)

It's a lovely guitar which I connected with immediately. Sounds great - so much clearer and more refined than my other Strat. Lost a star due to chips / untidiness on edge of the pick guard (surprised that got through QA on a guitar of this price) and the smell of the nitro on the neck (which I'm sure will dissipate but not nice).
