What we say:

Borrowing from their half-century of experience in making acoustic guitars, Yamaha offer an original design with their L series acoustics that held the traditional with the modern. With a feel that seems pre-played in and some ingenious new technology under the hood, the Yamaha L Series are a serious proposition indeed.

This model is a Transacoustic guitar. This proprietary technology developed by Yamaha simulates, via an ‘actuator’ attached within the guitar to the back of the body, the natural reverb and chorus effects that occur when you play in an acoustically superb room. The idea is that the guitar just sounds much better in a natural way. This unit, powered by batteries, has a couple of controls to determine how much reverb and chorus you want in your sound. In practice, this sounds very convincing when set properly: there is an extra dimension to the sounds that really open up the sound and enliven your playing. It’s very unusual but in a great way!

The guitar itself is very impressive, too: top quality Engelmann Spruce for the top and solid Rosewood for the back and sides makes for a classic combination that sounds fantastic. The top has been treated to Yamaha's A.R.E. process which simulates the sound of aged and played -in wood. The timber sounds more mature and enhances the overall playing experience further.

Yamaha's Concert body shape is a visually beautiful and sonically versatile choice: strumming and fingerpicking work equally well, especially with the Transacoustic technology in effect!

This wonderful guitar is basically for any player who wants to experience inspiring sounds every time they pick up their guitar for a play. This model is finished in beautiful Brown Sunburst.

*9 Volt battery not included.

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4.7/5 (12 reviews)

I like Yamaha guitars for a reason. They punch above their weight. This one is no exception. Excellent build quality and spec and sounds great. Easy to play with good balance across the strings. Clean fretwork with no buzz and good projection. A bone nut and saddle and ebony pins and it would be perfect. The plastic ones do the job fine though and would be easy to change. Elixir strings are a bit bright for some though I like them a lot and they last for months. The pickup is piezo but it sounds better than most systems plugged in and has plenty of output so a very good pre amp though with no on board EQ. Works great with my AER Compact 60 The effects are just an added bonus. Very nice to have.

The guitar needed further adjustment as above to fit my playing style

Very nice guitar, set up not perfect for me but you can’t have it all.

Chris S. - 16/8/2023

Love this guitar, this is the first Yamaha I have played in 50 years and I found it excellent quality.

I use my guitar unplugged only, and was looking for a little more. The Yamaha LS-TA fitted the bill. Great unplugged tone that meets all my needs, but put on the Transacoustics and it's impossible to put down.

It's a fantastic guitar. Great value for money. A pleasure to play. The transaccoustic technology transforms the playing experience. Strange at first to hear room and hall reverb as well as a chorus effect coming from the body of the guitar itself. It's inspirational. Tuning is stable and the intonation excellent. A light action for playing and the neck ideal for chords. Whether strumming or finger picking it's a lovely sound.

Malcolm S. - 24/5/2021

Lovely sound. The action is a bit high, otherwise I?m happy

Philip W. - 25/9/2020

This guitar is an absolute thing of beauty. The finish is flawless. A little disappointed that the action is a bit high at both the nut and the bridge. Going to have to spend a few quid to get it setup better. Beautiful sound though. The electronics effect is a lovely sound too.

An amazing guitar, fantastic build quality, great sound & with the Transacoustic feature turned on it makes it a truly unique playing experience. It is so addictive!!!! (In a good way)

Alan W. - 30/7/2019

Excellent sound and playability. Chorus and reverb features give an extra dimension to the guitar.

This is one great piece of equipment, a true evolution of acoustic guitars.

Maksim K. - 15/2/2018

What a fantastic guitar. Once again Yamaha outdo the much more expensive competition. Technically and on cost Yamaha excels.
