What we say:

Borrowing from their half-century of experience in making acoustic guitars, Yamaha offer an original design with their L series acoustics that held the traditional with the modern. With a feel that seems pre-played in and some ingenious new technology under the hood, the Yamaha L Series are a serious proposition indeed.

This model is a Transacoustic guitar. This proprietary technology developed by Yamaha simulates, via an ‘actuator’ attached within the guitar to the back of the body, the natural reverb and chorus effects that occur when you play in an acoustically superb room. The idea is that the guitar just sounds much better in a natural way. This unit, powered by batteries, has a couple of controls to determine how much reverb and chorus you want in your sound. In practice, this sounds very convincing when set properly: there is an extra dimension to the sounds that really open up the sound and enliven your playing. It’s very unusual but in a great way!

The guitar itself is very impressive, too: top quality Engelmann Spruce for the top and solid Rosewood for the back and sides makes for a classic combination that sounds fantastic. The top has been treated to Yamaha's A.R.E. process which simulates the sound of aged and played -in wood. The timber sounds more mature and enhances the overall playing experience further.

Yamaha's Dreadnought body shape is a visually beautiful and sonically versatile choice: strumming and fingerpicking work equally well, especially with the Transacoustic technology in effect! It has slightly more rounded shoulders than typical dreadnoughts which adds to the beauty. The guitar has been finished in a beautiful Brown Sunburst.

This wonderful guitar is basically for any player who wants to experience inspiring sounds every time they pick up their guitar for a play.

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4.9/5 (16 reviews)

The LL series is a great sounding guitar but the trans features of chorus and reverb achieved in the body of the guitar is a fantastic achievement of Yamaha technology. When people hear that sound coming from an unplugged acoustic guitar they must be as amazed as I was. No speakers just a servo powered by two AA’s vibrating the back of the guitar. Hope they’ve patented it.

This is a beautiful guitar - love the feel and look of it and the sound is fantastic. I wanted an electro-acoustic so that I could experiment with different effects. This guitar does that but you don't even need to plug it in! It creates reverb and chorus effects on its own. Don't understand how but it makes my playing sound so much better and is encouraging me to play more - which is what I was looking for.

Finish on guitar is great. Lovely tone as a straight acoustic and the trans acoustic system takes it to another level.

Yamaha quality ! Was between Gibson J45 or the Yamaha however read few reviews saying the Gibsons had few blemishes on them when delived and the Yamaha was 1000 pound cheaper for better spec. Quality always wins out

Sounds great, even with the effects turned off, just like the online videos, Compares favourably with my Avalon Brazilian rosewood guitar which was far more expensive. Beautifully made and finished.
