About Fender Deluxe Telecaster
The Fender Deluxe Telecaster was introduced in 1972. At that point, it was the most powerful, muscular sounding guitar Fender had released but it still had that unmistakable Fender chime.
The thing that makes these guitars tick is the pickups. Fender were worried that they were seen as only making single coil guitars. They feared losing out to Gibson in the late 60s and 70s as music became heavier and humbuckers were more and more necessary. They then hired Seth Lover, who invented the PAF humbucker for Gibson in 1957, to design a new humbucker for Fender.
The pickups Lover designed are known as ‘Wide Range Humbuckers’. They are immediately recognisable because the adjustable pole pieces are split into two sets of three on each coil. These pickups are much hotter than a single coil. This means they can drive amps harder but still retain the sparkle you associate with Fender - a win/win!
These guitars went out of fashion after they were discontinued in 1979. However, they were rediscovered by a new generation of indie bands in the 00s - most notably Franz Ferdinand and Coldplay. These days the Fender Telecaster Deluxe is made in two series: the American Professional II Series and the Mexican Vintera Series. Both these ranges capture the magic of the original Tele Deluxe.
Our Fender Deluxe Telecaster guitars come included with a hard case.
