About Supro Amps
Supro Amps are one of the iconic amp brands in the history of rock & roll, famous for their gorgeous all valve tone, clear, rich mids and wide dynamic range. It was this iconic tone that drew in acts like the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Jimmy Page who used it to devastating effect paired with his "Dragon" Telecaster on the first few Led Zeppelin albums.
Supro amps have a long and star studded history though they have often flown under the radar and used only by those in the know. Starting way back in 1935 in Chicago, USA producing guitar amps under their own name with their own distinctive art-deco styling. Early models like the Royal Reverb and the Big Star Reverb were all-tube combos with built-in reverb and tremolo circuits. They featured Jensen speakers and were advertised as giving the cleanest sound and the biggest volume of any amp available. Interestingly, Supro can lay claim to being the first commercially available amp with built in reverb!
Supro amps were well regarded for their clear, rich mid frequency response as well as having a wide dynamic range. It was this tone that drew in players such as Jimmy Page who lay down huge tones with a Supro amp and his infamous "Dragon Tele'' on the first few Led Zeppelin albums. After the collapse of their parent company in 1968 Supro fell out of the limelight for many years until the brand was revived in 2013 and slowly built itself back up partnering with Bond Audio (parent company of D’Angelico Guitars and Pigtronix) in 2020. Today Supro brings you the classic age old rock & Roll sound and the familiar yet timeless styling that made them so popular in the 20th century.
Thanks to their modern construction methods and excellent quality control, Supro amps deliver an experience comparable to any boutique amp, without the boutique price tag.
