What we say:

At A Glance:

The Explorer is one of Gibson's best designs, it's often emulated but never bettered. Loved from everyone from James Hetfield to The Edge, The Explorer is adored for its striking shape, oversized yet comfortable feel and warm tones that beg to be overdriven. This 70s edition is complemented by the 70s Tribute humbuckers, slim-taper neck and gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.

Features We Love:

All Mahogany Construction

Mahogany is loved for its weightiness, rich low end and smooth high-end character. The use of mahogany for the body and neck with a "set" construction adds to the sustain that Gibson is famed for. Plus, the flat-top body and slim-taper neck really add to the vintage feel of this guitar, it's a classic look that's a fit for pretty much any style of music.

Slim Taper Neck

While early Gibson guitars were notable for their traditional girthy necks, as guitarists began playing at faster speeds in the 70s, demand rose for a slender and more fluid feeling neck. And so, the Slim Taper Neck was introduced, which starts out slim for easy chording at the 1st fret and gradually becomes thicker down the neck until it joins the guitar, promoting sustain and reducing player fatigue.

Gibson 70s Tribute Pickups

Tap into that vintage 70s tone with these awesome Gibsons 70s Tribute pickups. These high output pickups are the perfect match for the Explorer's mahogany construction, resulting in a rich and clear tone that sounds great on clean and overdriven tones.

Highlights:

  • Standout looks
  • Vintage tones

Condition Report

Some light discolouration into the finish from the hanger. Two small lacquer cracks at the back of the headstock where the tuners are fitted.
