Sporting all the highest quality the Gibson Custom Shop could throw at it, the Lucille Legacy sports a host of the classic features that make the original Lucille so iconic, including the TP-6 tailpiece with fine tuners, the No-F-Hole top hollowbody, and of course the 6-position Varitone switch. You just can't get that B.B. sound without the Varitone.

Lucille

The Lucille Legacy is, of course, based on Mr. King's very own Lucille guitars. For most of his career, B.B. was almost never seen without one of his iconic all black ES-335 style guitars, instantly recognisable with the lack of F-Holes to the top and large 6-position chicken head Varitone switch. The features B.B. insisted on having on his guitars were part of the equation of his unmistakable tone, and they're all recreated in this stunning instrument.

Varitone Switch

In nerdy terms, the 6-position Varitone Switch is a tone control that works as a notch-filter, scooping out preset sections of mid-range frequency to achieve a host of rarely-found tones, compared to the generic low-pass filter of a regular tone knob.

In sound terms though, this is the key to the B.B. sound. Those notched, scooped sounds, paired of course with the rest of this guitar's stunning, top quality electronics, are the secret sauce to the inimitable honk of B.B.'s The Thrill Is Gone, as well as countless other tracks.
