What we say:
At A Glance:
The Yamaha DTX M12 Multipad combines decades of electronic drum experience with state of the art sound and sampling. With 12 velocity-sensitive pads, sounds from Yamaha's flagship Motif synthesizers, audio sampling and pattern recording, the DTX M12 is a feature packed percussion tool that's a hit on stage and in the studio.
Features We Love:
Sounds and Sampling
With 1,277 voices the DTX M12 Multipad possibly has the largest sound library of any percussion pad we've seen. Yamaha have included this huge selection using voices taken from their flagship Motif synthesizer, not just limited to drum and percussion sounds, you're able to select from an extensive library that also includes DJ, electronic, folk and acoustic instrument voices. In addition to the massive sound bank, you can load in your own samples via a USB pen drive. All sounds can be edited, customised with reverb and chorus, and given an organic flair with Yamaha's Variation feature.
Pads and Inputs
The Multipad features 12 pads in total, with 6 large pads on the main face of the device, 3 on the front lip and 3 curving over the top edge. This not only maximises the amount of sounds available on one patch, it also gives vibe and variety to the playing experience.
The DTX M12 is also fully expandable, with 2 dual zone inputs and a single zone input which can be split into 5 separate single zone inputs. Plus, a hi-hat control input for opening and closing hi-hat sounds and a footswitch input for changing patterns or patches. This gives you a lot of options for using the Multipad with various drum pads and triggers, making it easy to work into your drum and percussion set up or for use as a stand alone electric drum kit for home practice.
Patterns
One of the Multipad's most unique assets is the pattern feature. In addition to the 128 MIDI patterns from different genres of music, you can record and store your own. Patterns can be assigned to pads and started and stopped simply by striking the designated pad, they can also be tempo mapped using the tap tempo function. The pattern feature can be useful for creating an accompanying layer as part of your performance, recording and listening back during practice or even for using the Multipad like a drum machine.
