What we say:

At A Glance:

This Atkin Dreadnought is a fantastic example of the company's ability to make world-class guitars. Stripped of superfluous decoration, the Essential D is designed and assigned to be your songwriting and playing companion for life! With warmth and clarity both available, this all-rounder excels in all areas.

Features We Love:

Pre-War Details

From the scalloping to the fretboard inlays, Atkin have delivered a guitar steeped in heritage. It pays off brilliantly: the Essential D is an understated beauty with a thrilling tone.

Torrefied Top

This lovely instrument sounds like a century old classic, and that is partly because the Sitka Spruce top has been torrefied. This means that the timber has been treated to high temperatures in order to remove moisture and nutrients. It basically speeds up the natural ageing process, resulting in stunning sounds.

Relic Finish

The Relic finish is sympathetically handled, bringing a soft patina of age that works perfectly in concert with the thin-skin Aged nitrocellulose lacquer to make for a convincingly aged appearance.

Pros:

  • Exceptional sound
  • Excellent feel
  • Wonderful understated looks.

Specification

Each Essential D is made with an aged North American Sitka spruce top and braced with pre-war scalloped bracing.  Mahogany back and sides are complimented by a lightweight mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard  – just like some of the finest Pre-War guitars.

At Atkin, we pride ourselves on our finishes. Alister details, sprays and polishes every guitar by hand with our own nitrocellulose blend, soon to be available through Rothko and Frostover a month-long period.

For the Essential D, we’ve come up with the thinnest nitro finish that we can shoot while protecting the instrument against the rigours of life on the road.  Very light ageing of the lacquer gives each instrument a “played-in” feel.

Upon picking up the guitar the LR Baggs Anthem preamp that was supplied and fitted fell off, and the E string was buzzing. As I wanted to play the guitar straight away I had to pay £40 to a external luthier to refit the pick-up and set the guitar up properly. When you consider its £3,000 I'd of thought this would of been done properly. However now all done the guitar is absolutely amazing!

Could not be happier with this incredible guitar. It's a privilege to own it. A guitar for life which will encourage me to continue learning.
