What we say:

At A Glance:

The SM81 by Shure is a small diaphragm condenser microphone. With its cardioid polar pattern and range of pad and filter options, the SM81 is the ultimate microphone for capturing acoustic instruments and cymbals, both on stage and in the studio.

Features We Love:

SM81 In Action

The SM81 offers a natural sound and isn't sensitive to higher sound pressure levels, making it ideal for studio and stage use on acoustic instruments. Its controllable high end make the SM81 ideal for use on acoustic guitars, pianos, cymbals and hi-hats.

Pad and Filter

The microphone features a set of filter and attenuation controls that let you tailor the microphone for how you're using it. Rolling off the lower frequencies and engaging the -10db when using the microphone on drums will cut out rumbling captured through the stand and prevent any risk of distortion caused by peaks in sound.

Field Ready

As well as being great for stage and studio use, the SM81 is also suitable for field recording across a range of temperature and humidity conditions.

Who Is It For?

Producers, recording studios and venues.

Highlights:

  • Voiced for acoustic instruments and cymbals
  • Can be used as part of a pair
