What we say:

At A Glance:

The Shure Beta 91A is a boundary microphone that is most commonly used in professional applications for kick drums. Loved for pronounced attack and depth the 91A also works beautifully for capturing piano with great sound isolation and bass amps.

Features We Love:

What is a Boundary Microphone?

A boundary microphone features a capsule mounted into a casing that promotes a dry capture of sound without letting reflected sounds reach the capsule. This is ideal for use in kick drums and pianos with the lid closed, where reverberations would normally cause phasing and comb-filtering issues. Boundary microphones are also less prone to rumbling, this offers excellent sound isolation, especially with kick drums, where the sound of the other drums would normally be captured by the mic.

With a Kick Drum

The Beta 91A is the industry-standard kick drum microphone and it's an absolute dream to use. Simply place it inside the drum (ideally on a dampening cushion) and you're good to go!

Highlights:

  • Precision sound
  • Low risk of feedback
  • Prevents phasing and comb-filtering issues
