Have you ever been to a gig that just sounded incredible? One where the drums were punchy, the guitars sounded thick and immersive, the bass was thumping and vocals cut through perfectly? Well as much as we'd love to give full credit to the rockstars onstage, the truth is that a sound engineer can make or break a performance. Mixing live music is an art in itself and one which carries a lot of pressure. Great sound engineers are masters of their craft, making adjustments on the fly and intuitively capturing the best parts of a live performance. Not only do they have a real feel for music, but they know their gear inside out and are problem solvers who can fix any issues that arise at a moments notice. Like we said, A LOT of pressure!

Meet Sam Parker

Sam Parker is an engineer who has built a glowing reputation in the British gigging circuit working with a wide variety of high level touring bands. His experience is pretty incredible, working with Liam Gallagher, John Squire, Rick Astley, Paolo Nutini, Lily Allen and more. He's an expert in his field and has used Yamaha gear throughout his career, which we consider to be some of the most well built, intuitive and cutting edge on the market. We've been desperate to spend some time with Sam learning his secrets and are very pleased to share that he's joining us for two events this October.

Joing Us for a Live Sound Workshop

We're hosting workshops in our Epsom and Glasgow stores where you can get a rundown on how to make any artist sound great, from one of the best in the business.

Sam will be using the Yamaha DM3, a favourite mixer of ours, and will discuss his path into live sound, his career to date, plus how a day on the road working with a high profile artist unfolds. This will include basic techniques (mic selection for example), demonstrations on how he treats different elements of a performance, an overview of his most used gear along with a background on why he uses Yamaha consoles. Knowing Sam, we're quite certain there'll be a few stories along the way as well! The best part? We're also going to open up for a Q&A where you can get advice from Sam that'll help you with your own mixes. It's rare to get an opportunity to spend time with a pro audio expert who operates at Sam's level and we're over the moon to give you all the chance to pick his brain.
