MARK KNOPFLER: Charity Single featuring JEFF BECK's Last Performance!
Published on 12 February 2024
It’s all about Mark Knopfler right now, isn’t it? Only last week we were all glued to our screens for the live charity auction of some of his most cherished guitars, silently glaring at our woefully inadequate credit cards. Now, the Dire Straits frontman has made the news again by announcing a forthcoming and very special charity single!
A Who’s-Who of Guitarists
The song, released to aid the charities Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America, is a reworking of Knopfler’s tear-jerking Going Home (Theme from Local Hero), which is great news since it’s a contemporary classic.
But that’s not all! Knopfler understands the power of a good story, and so has opened his heaving address book and called in the talent of some of the most famous and beloved musicians on the planet.
How’s this for a list? (Take a deep breath…)
Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Sting, Brian May, Joan Jett, Nile Rogers, and Brian May, Joan Armatrading, Richard Bennett, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Brown, James Burton, Jonathan Cain, Paul Carrack, Ry Cooder, Jim Cox, Steve Cropper, Sheryl Crow, Danny Cummings, Duane Eddy, Sam Fender, Peter Frampton, Audley Freed, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, Keiji Haino, John Jorgenson, Sonny Landreth, Albert Lee, Greg Leisz, Alex Lifeson, Steve Lukather, Phil Manzanera, Dave Mason, Hank Marvin, Robbie McIntosh, John McLaughlin, Tom Morello, Rick Neilsen, Orianthi, Brad Paisley, Mike Rutherford, Joe Satriani, John Sebastian, Connor Selby, Slash, Andy Taylor, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Ian Thomas, Keith Urban, Steve Vai, Waddy Wachtel, Joe Louis Walker, Joe Walsh, Glenn Worf, Zucchero.
Jeff Beck
You noticed Jeff Beck’s name there, yeah? Indeed, this recording actually marks his last ever recorded music, so there’s some extra poignancy to the proceedings. It’s also a historically significant document just for the sheer troupe of talent gathered in the one place!
We can let you hear a snippet right now, but for the whole performance, you’ll need to buy the single when it is released on March 15th.
A great song, played by the best guitar talents in the world - including Jeff Beck’s last performance - and all for two great charities? Get it bought on March 15th!
