Fender Custom Shop: every guitarist’s dream, the pinnacle of guitar luthiery. If you’ve ever played one, you’ll know just what we’re talking about. If you’ve always been curious about the phenomena of a custom made guitar, you’d surely want to hear it straight from the men who create them.
We are thrilled to announce that two prominent luthiers of the outstanding Fender Master Builder Team, Levi Perry and Austin MacNutt, will fly in straight from the American factory to our London store to host an exclusive clinic!
Who are the Masterbuilders?
Both, Levi and Austin have been crafting some of the most in-demand Custom Shop Fenders in recent years. Their luthiership skills are second to none and their experience in the industry is a dream come true.
Levi Perry learned straight from the great Master Builders (e.g. Paul Waller, Todd Krause, Dale Wislon) individually. He worked on many prestigious builds during this period, including the Game of Thrones series, the Limited Edition Phil Lynott Precision Bass, or the Limited Edition George Harrison Rocky Strat.
Having finished a prestigious Guitar Craft Academy in Hollywood, Austin MacNutt instantly took a teaching post at the institution which he kept for 5 years. He met Ron Thorn during an inlay seminar and moved onto building high-end electric guitars under the Thorn brand for 11 years before finally becoming a Master Builder at Fender.
What to expect?
Levi and Austin will run an evening full of Fender Custom Shop trivia. They’ll talk about the history of the brand and its Custom Shop origins. They’ll tell you what it’s like to be a luthier at one of the world’s most renowned guitar brands and what skills are required to become one. Perry and MacNutt will both make a presentation about a day in the life of a Master Builder and how the building process goes: from raw lumber selection, millwork, through CNC machine operation to final assembly.
Master Builders will bring along 4 exclusive Custom Shop models they built, not currently available in the UK. You’ll be able to hear it, compare it side by side with standard range Fenders and purchase it!
They’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have to be prepared to pick their brains on all-things Fender.
