About Fender Jaguar

The Fender Jaguar is one of Fender's best loved and biggest selling electric guitar designs. The Jaguar was introduced in 1962 as a successor to the previous decade's Stratocaster. It was designed as a guitar for the surf generation. Since then it has become a favourite of indie, grunge and alternative rock bands who want to create their own sound, made possible with the Jaguar's unique set of controls and circuits.

The Jaguar's switching options make it a great choice for those who like to experiment with sounds. This is one of the reasons Fender Jaguar guitars are now more popular than ever before. One famous user is ex-guitarist of The Smiths, Johnny Marr, who has his own signature model. Many players enjoy the feel of the shorter 24" scale length. The tremolo is a great feature for adding expression to playing. A bass variant, the Fender Jaguar Bass, is also a firm favourite.

Based on the original Fender Jaguar, the models available today come in many different forms with modern touches and variations. This adds even more choice for guitarists seeking to find their own sound. These include models at a number of price points across the American, Vintera and Player Jaguar Series.

A selection of our Fender Jaguar guitars come included with a gig bag or hard case.

Why Should I Choose a Fender Jaguar?

  • Inspired by the surf era
  • Known for its 'offset' body and floating vibrato Jaguar Bridge
  • Jaguar models have a slightly shorter scale length than other Fender models
  • Especially popular for indie and alternative rock due to the switching options

Frequently Asked Questions about Fender Jaguar

Question: What do the switches on a Fender Jaguar do?
The typical Fender Jaguar has two completely separate circuits: rhythm and lead (treble). When in lead mode, both pickups can be used and only the bottom controls work . In rhythm mode, only the rhythm pickup (neck) is used and is changed using the controls at the top. The controls are a variety of pickup on/off switches, tone controls and also a mid-tone cut control, known as a 'strangle' switch. While it may appear confusing at first, it is actually relatively straight forward once you get used to it.
Question: Where are Fender Jaguars made?
The Jaguars in the various American ranges are crafted at Fender's factory in Corona, Californa, USA. The Mexican made models such as the Vintera and the Player Series are produced in Ensenada, Mexico. Guitars from both factories are extremely well made.
Question: How much is a Fender Jaguar?
The Jaguar is available in a number of the Fender series. At the most affordable end, the Fender Player Jaguar Series offers a great introduction to this model. The Vintera costs a little more and has a more traditional approach. The American models cost more but have excellent quality construction and components, making them worth the extra money for many.
Question: Who plays a Fender Jaguar?
Some of the notable players include Johnny Marr, Kurt Cobain, John Frusciante, Graham Cox, PJ Harvey and Thurston Moore. As you can probably tell from these names, The Fender Jaguar certainly found a home in indie and alternative rock music.
