About Fender Bass Guitars
Fender bass guitars are the most iconic basses of all time. Not content with inventing the solid body guitar as we know it; or the electric guitar amplifier as we know it, Leo Fender also invented the electric bass guitar. Some man. There are three main styles of Fender bass guitars: the Precision Bass, the Jazz Bass and the Mustang Bass.
The Precision Bass was introduced in the 50s. It has a famously powerful low-end rumble. It has a chunky neck and one split-coil pickup. The P Bass has been played extensively on all styles of music from Motown to metal.
The Jazz bass was introduced in the 60s. It has a slim neck and two single coil pickups. It is known for its bright bass sound with cutting upper mids. It is great for slap bass which is why it is very popular among funk players. As well as funk, it makes for a great rock bass because it cuts through the mix clearly.
The Mustang bass is a short scale bass originally designed for students. The short scale makes it easy to play and gives it a thumpy, percussive quality. It is ideal for pop and indie music.
There are many iterations of these Fender bass guitars: some are vintage reissues, some are modern reimaginings. Fender basses are made in two factories: one in California, USA and one in Mexico. Fender make these classic designs under the name ‘Squier’. These are extremely affordable and ideal for beginners.
